Promoting Your Terraria Server
Last updated: October 24, 2020
Now you have found yourself a great Terraria server hosting provider using my guide you will need to fill it with players.
The old mantra of “if you build it they will come” is a lot more of a dream than a expectation.
You can be pro-active though about your server promotion and I talk about my favourite method in this guide I have put together.
My Top Ways To Promote Your Terraria Server
Create a Video of your server
One of the best ways to promote your server for free is to create a video of your server.
What content to include.
- Introduce yourself
- Try to make engaging content
- How to connect to your server
- A website or community page if you have one
- Features on the server
- Current users
These are just a couple of ideas that I have used in the past when creating videos for any servers that I’m trying to promote.
The key is to be unique and different, however you will need to also reach your potential viewers.
Try posting the video on as many Terraria related websites as you can and don’t forget to upload them to YouTube and other social media sites.
Start a YouTube or Twitch Channel
Ever thought about starting a stream or uploading content to YouTube?
Having a server creates a great opportunity to create quality, original material that you can use to promote your server, build a following and potentially earn money while doing it.
Build a following
If you manage to build a loyal following on any social media platform, you will have plenty of willing players that will join your server.
A lot of streams and YouTube’rs are idolised by their followers.
Being idolised means you could easily invite your subscribers to join your server as they will want to spend as much time with you as they possibly could.
Obviously becoming idolised is easier said than done. Even a few hundred or a thousand subscribers can be converted into players.
These players may even help promote your server to their friends as well. This can be a difficult method but the potential reward for your hard work is massive.
Earn money from your content
If you become a YouTube’r or a Twitch streamer, you have the potential to earn revenue from any Terraria content that you upload or stream.
It obviously takes a lot of hard work and good quality content to become noticed on these platforms. Unless you try you will never know right?
You could turn your promoted server into a place to earn money. It’s not impossible, lots of people are very successful using this method. Could you be next?
Create a social media page for your server
If you can’t start a YouTube channel or stream regularly, it’s always worth creating a social media page for your server.
On your page you can upload images, create discussions and interact with your current members.
Make sure that you are as active as possible on both the server and your social media page.
There’s nothing worse than an inactive admin and a rubbish community. In my opinion the community on the server is one of the most important parts of choosing a server.
Invite people on your friends list
A nice easy way to promote your server is to tell your friends that you have just set on up. Send them and invite over steam or let them know on social media, you could even go one step further and ask them to tell their friends. It’s a very easy way to get people to play on your server.
Terraria in my opinion is played best with your friends anyway.
Terraria Server Lists
No matter what game you play you can always find a server list for it.
These server list sites are all very similar and offer the same advertising spots as the other sites do.
If you’re not familiar with the concept of advertising on server lists then you have two options, a free and premium listing.
A Free listing allows you to advertise your server using a banner and tags.
There is no set way to boost a free listing, so you may struggle to gain users this way.
However I would advise trying the free version before upgrading to premium.
A Premium listing can attract players to your server really quickly as it will be placed in the top 3 spots on the list.
There are thousands of servers on a server list so being top is really important, but it comes at a cost. The site will either charge you daily, weekly or monthly.
The price can be fixed or they will make you bid against other servers which can make it rather expensive.
I have used both the sites below to advertise my Terraria servers. They both have a free and premium listing and are easy to set up.
Promoting your Terraria server should be easy with my 5 tips and tricks above. If you do manage to become a famous streamer or YouTube using this guide then please be sure to let me know that my guide helped you.
It takes time to build a community on any server, but it’s worth it when you are enjoying your time playing with both new and old friends.
